Alan Bell is a forestry consultant based in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. After completing a Bachelor of Forestry at Canterbury University School of Forestry in 1976, Alan embarked on a career with the NZ Forest Service. During this period Alan worked as a field forester and later, a resources forester for the NZ Government who, at that time was NZ's largest owner of exotic plantations.

In 1987 the NZ Forest Service became a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) - the NZ Forestry Corporation (NZFC) - and Alan moved to NZ's capital city Wellington to undertake a Corporate Planning role with NZFC. However, the Labour Govt of the day decided to embark on a Sale of State Forests and Alan was seconded to the NZFC Asset Sales Group and set about valuing all of NZ's State Plantations for the sales process.

After the Govt forest sales were completed in 1992, Alan became an independent forestry consultant and was registered with the NZ Institute of Forestry (NZIF) as a specialist consultant in the field of "Assessment, Investment Analysis & Valuation of Forest Resources".

Alan was born in 1953 and is a keen whitewater paddler.
